Ten Cool Finger Lakes Wines

My latest Tasting Panel column considers ten great wines from the Finger Lakes.

Finger Lakes Wines

Two million years ago, the Laurentide Ice Sheet raked its claws across North America, scratching 11 deep lakes into the landscape. Born of ice, the Finger Lakes now temper the climate for the vines that hug their shores.

I’ve visited the region three times since 2010 and recently tasted nearly 50 current releases. My latest column for The Tasting Panel Magazine highlights ten of the best.

Thank you for the information. It’s good to see Wiemer in your list of choices. I visited in 2008, and found the wines to be very enjoyable. A magnum of their 2007 Dry Riesling opened this past spring was in very good form, and had developed a textural creaminess reminiscent of Mosel Riesling.

I need to get back to the Finger Lakes.
