Announcing Two New Food and Wine Columns

Meg Houston Maker joins The Tasting Panel and The Clever Root as contributing editor and columnist

Wine Writing

The fall brings new opportunities and my byline in two national food and wine publications.

First, I’ve joined Tasting Panel Magazine as a contributing editor and columnist. Tasting Panel’s print readership of ninety thousand industry insiders, mostly on- and off-premise wine buyers, makes it a leading American wine trade publication. Each month in my column, Taking Flight, I’ll tap the Zeitgeist to recommend wines that match the mood. My first filing, in September’s issue, considers white wines for fall cuisine. (Read this PDF of my column, or click view the magazine’s full digital edition.)

I’ve also signed on to write a regular column for The Clever Root, a newish consumer print quarterly focusing on field and table—on agriculture as the root of food culture. My column, Flavor Crush, will launch with the Winter edition. I’ll be focusing on a specific style or ingredient that’s catching fire now, interviewing chefs around the country about how they’re using it and why it matters.

So—I need your help. As you shop, cook, eat, drink, plant, harvest, and taste, pay attention. What’s new? What’s delicious? What’s changing—and what needs to change? Send me your food insights, and I’ll attempt to transform them into food for thought.

Thanks, as always, for reading.
