This varietal Chenin was grown at Wilson Ranch in the Sacramento Delta, a site with sandy, well-drained soils and significant diurnal temperature swings. Dry Creek has sourced fruit from these vines since the 1980s, and their offering is bone dry, fermented in stainless and treated to minimal handling. The wine has a fragrance of sweetgrass, honeysuckle, and honeyed apricots that segues seamlessly to suggestions of ripe pear and green melon. Moderate acidity balances its opulent stone fruits (a hallmark of Chenin Blanc), while a jazzy, almost spritzy, herbal essence closes the deal. A great aperitif wine, and well-priced at $12.
