2013 Pellegrini Wine Company Pinot Noir Hurst Vineyard, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County

“A variegated, prismatic wine...”

2013 Pellegrini Wine Company Pinot Noir Hurst Vineyard, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County
The Hurst Vineyard boasts powdery Goldridge soils that are washed by the cooling marine air of the Petaluma Gap. The Pinot planted here is Dijon 115 and 777 and Pommard 5. The 2013 vintage was pristine. In the making, this wine was gently handled and moved by gravity to preserve its delicate aromatics and structure. It spent 16 months in barrel, which tinged it with a suggestion of spice and nut. Still, it flowers open with a kind of raspberry sweetness, and the body feels linear—juicy, tart, and refreshing—with a pleasant resinous finish that snaps attention at the close. Time will only integrate what is now a variegated, prismatic wine.
