2010 Tenute Silvio Nardi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
Extraordinarily elegant, like kid suede, black velvet, caviar, string of pearls. Even so, this is a wine born in nature. The body the color of a faded red sunrise, with pale peach-skin at the rim and bright ruby glints. The scent is fresh-washed, but there is a frame of warm, sonorous earth and woodsy cherries. The tannins are smooth and sympathetic. The 2010 vintage was sterling, and the Sangiovese was hand-harvested and hand-sorted. The wine aged for twelve months in new and used French oak barrels before being moved to Slavonian oak, and reposed in bottle for twelve months before release. It’s aged months beyond that, but is just beginning to come into readiness. Lithe and thoughtful, but also savory. Hold it a while, or pair now with light meats, poultry, and charcuterie.

  • Yesterday, I posted on this wine, and since waking early (a little time to explore the cyber world), I was curious as to what others were saying about the Tenute Silvio Nardi 2010 Brunello Di Montalcino; having stumbled upon another NH writer/blogger, I, with butterfly wings, alighted here.
Not one to tare-down, but rather to edify, usually following the saying “no good deed will go unpunished”, couldn’t get over just how lithely you have described this Sangiovese. Excellent!
    Cheers!
PS, surprisingly many other wine-writers weren’t as Shakespearean as you, nor as respectful as I was.

  • Dennis,
Many thanks for reading and for your kind remarks. It’s lovely to meet another New Hampshire wine writer—and what a coincidence that we reviewed the same wine of the same vintage within the span of a month! You make it sound delicious.
I look forward to keeping in touch.
    All best,
    Meg
