An Italian and Two Frenchmen Walk Into a Bar…

Supert

Bonny Doon
Super Tuscan
2008
Price: about $15

This wine is a blend of 52% Sangiovese, 33% Syrah, and 15% Cinsault. So that means it's: bright, fruity, earthy, tart, meaty, delicate, feminine, supple.

In the glass it's brilliant red-purple, ringingly clear. It smells like earth and bright fruit at the same time, the two scents marrying in your sensorium, with a little catch of mint and sage and licorice at the tail end. On the palate, there's more brightness (that's the Sangiovese talking), but with a chewy core (Syrah) and a lilting feminine grace (Cinsault).

There's a whole crowd in here, and they all bring something to the party. Daring, exuberant, brilliant.

The punchline? Buy it.

  1. Hi, Megan; this might originally have been a club-only release. The wine name “Super Tuscan” in the post is linked to the Bonny Doon Vineyard online store page for this wine: https://www.bonnydoonvineyard.com/store/464. (I usually try to provide links to the winery’s page if there is one.)
If you have no success on the site, or even if you do, you might call the good people of Bonny Doon at 888-819-6789 or email orders@bonnydoonvineyard.com and let them know you’re having trouble finding their wine in your area. They could likely tell you where to buy their wines, and if there’s nowhere close buy, they will know whether they can ship to you. If there’s no local availability but an obvious market (you!—at least), it’s a good data point for their distributor.
    Cheers!
