Straw and Hay

Domaine du Château d'Eau Syrah et Cinsault

This vin de pays d'Oc is deep gold-pink, like a jewel in a glass. It offers a demure nose of straw and hay, clean like bleached sheets on a sunwashed summer day. On the palate it's flinty and serious, with a tinge of watermelon, plus more hay and field strawberries. It finishes short. Restrained and austere, despite its lavish color. It would be perfect with a grassy goat cheese and black olives on toast.
